We had a great meeting last night!
We spent some time talking about this trip to Chicago and why it is we are going. This is a mission trip and the teens that are going are called...for one reason or another. Part of their preparation is to pray for discernment. Pray for openness to the Holy Spirit that will guide them on this journey and uncover exactly what it is they are meant to learn, do, see or hear and/or who it is they are called to meet while we are in Chicago.
The remainder of the evening we talked about the fundraisers for this trip to cover the expenses of a rented 15-passenger van, food, gas for chaperones, and a small amount for Port to cover our stay. The remainder of any money collected will go as a donation to Port & Mission of Our Lady of the Angels.
The first fundraiser we will begin is called "Wall of Money." Last night, each teen took 5 (or more if they messed up :-) ) envelopes and decorated them with a different number. By the time we were done, we had 100 envelopes, each with a number from 1-100 on it. Inside each envelope will be a sheet of paper explaining a little bit about the trip to Chicago and instruction to put money in the amount written on the envelope into the envelope and drop it off in the office. For example, if I take the envelope marked $20, I will place $20 in it and drop it off or mail it to the office. The kids did a great job decorating the envelopes and in true teen spirit, managed to make it fun!
We will begin that fundraiser the weekend of May 31-June 1.
The Pancake Breakfast will be Sunday, June 8th, 6:30a-2:30p. I divided the day into 3 shifts and passed around a sign up sheet. I will also be asking you, the parents, to help us out that day with making & cooking the pancakes and general kitchen help...so watch for that. :-)
