VBS 2014
SonTreasure Island Vacation Bible School
AHOY! THAT'S A WRAP!!
Our wonderful week at SonTreasure Island has come to an end! It was an absolutely incredible week with some amazing kids and truly dedicated volunteers. I cannot say enough about the group this year...from start to finish this was one for the books.
Thank you to the parents for entrusting us with your children and being so great about the "Crazy Days," the Service Project, the snack donations, and all the running around to get to and from each day! Thank you, teachers, leaders and volunteers. This doesn't happen with out you. But it's not just that all of you did it...it's HOW you all did it. There was such spirit and energy brought to VBS every day. It can be a little tiring to put this altogether but the kids never felt that-all they got from their teachers was love and genuine happiness to see them each day. I am grateful. If you think you left something behind, please contact Shelly Conlon at [email protected]. We have some craft items left over, a headband, some coloring sheets, etc. Have a blessed and safe rest of the summer, everyone! God's Love is FORGIVING ~ VBS Day 4 ~ CRAZY SOCK Day!
It's hard to believe that we only have one day left her on TREASURE ISLAND!
Day 4 brought us some of the craziest socks we have ever seen!! The Islanders learned today that God's love is always FORGIVING. The Bible story of Zacchaeus helped us learn all about the power of forgiveness! My shout out today goes to Keaton & Chloe who have amazed me each day with their ability to go with the flow and make the music rotation SO FUN despite not having the video...my bad. YOU GUYS ROCK. Literally and figuratively. Tomorrow is CRAZY COLOR DAY! It will be fun to see each group all in the same color! The picnic is tomorrow and if you haven't signed up but would like to join us, please email me at [email protected] and just let me know how many to plan for! Then bring a dish to share. PARENTS-at the end of tomorrow, instead of coming into the gym, please go directly to the SOCIAL HALL-located upstairs. You can drop off your food item and have a seat.....be sure to save a spot for you VBS kiddos as they will eat with you! We will bring the Islanders up to the Social Hall group by group. After they sing a song that will blow the roof off, they will be dismissed to your loving care for a fun, yummy lunch! Today we were blessed with a gift from Choices Medical Clinic. EVERY Islander is getting a 12-week pre-born baby wrapped in cloth. There is also a card in the wrap to read through as well. The older groups took theirs home today. Tomorrow we will send the younger kids home with theirs. Thank you, Choices Medical Clinic!!! Tomorrow we will prepare all the amazing donations to give to them. We've seen brand new pumps, baby clothes, food, diapers, wipes, bottles, and formula...KEEP IT COMING!
God's Love is CARING ~ VBS Day 3 ~ CRAZY HAT DAY!
Day 3 was a blast! It was crazy hat day here and there were some AMAZINGLY creative hats. From underwear to balloons to inflatable balls....we saw a bit of everything!
Island castaways learned that God's love is CARING. We read from John 4:1-42 about Jesus caring for a Samaritan Woman at the well. We also talked about how God's love is for everyone! A huge SHOUT OUT to our games leaders Tom, Dan, Aaron, Austin & Trevor for the FABULOUS job they are doing with the games! They haven't let a little rain get in their way! Today was an obstacle course in the gym that the kids absolutely loved. MY VOLUNTEERS ROCK! Tomorrow is CRAZY SOCK DAY! We can't wait to see what these little ones put together for that! Our groups are doing a WONDERFUL job with donations for Choices Medical Clinic! They accept new or gently used items such as diapers, wipes, blankets, bottles, baby clothes, formula/baby food, etc. On Friday we will see which class collects the most! FRIDAY IS OUR PICNIC! If you haven't signed up yet, please do so when you drop off or pick your child at the registration table. It will be in the social hall immediately after VBS. We will provide hot dogs, drinks & table service. Each family is asked to bring a dish to share. Some of our donations for Choices Medical Clinic!

God's Love is GIVING & KIND ~ VBS Days 1 & 2
Well we have 2 days in the books for the SonTreasure Island Vacation Bible School!
Hopefully your beach combers have shared some of the stuff they have been doing with us while they are here. You might be hearing one of our songs sung over and over and over and over or maybe you've already hung the alphabet octopus craft on your refrigerator. Maybe you've heard about the INCREDIBLE job our Bible Story teacher, Hula Heather is doing in sharing the story of God's love! Tutti Frutti has been keeping them full in the snack room along with a video to further share the good news. And finally, Kiwis Keaton & Chloe have managed to teach some choreography despite some technical difficulties. It's a busy, crazy day here on the island.
Wednesday is CRAZY HAT DAY so bring out and dust off the craziest cap you can find!
The Service Project is donations for Choices Medical Clinic here in Iowa City. They accept new or gently used items such as diapers, wipes, blankets, bottles, baby clothes, formula/baby food, etc. Some of the classes have started their stack and on Friday we will see which class collects the most!
The end of week picnic will be Friday in the Social Hall at noon. Families are invited and asked to sign up on the sheet on the check in table. Just tell us how many you have and a dish to share so we can plan. We will provide hot dogs and drinks!
THANK YOU to all of you who signed up for snack donations! That was an enormous help for us!
